The keyboard and mouse layout in IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator is built around the operator's core routine: read the received coordinates, take map measurements, strain the hydraulics, and gunlay the cannons. The exact default keys are shown in the Settings screen before you start your first sortie, and the bindings are organized into these action groups.

"Take map measurements based on the received coordinates, strain the hydraulics, and gunlay the cannons to unleash devastating blows."
  • Gunlaying: traverse and elevation inputs that aim the main cannons, with the mouse covering the aiming actions and the keyboard handling the support systems.
  • Hydraulics: the strain and release controls that actually move the heavy turret assembly.
  • Map and measurement: bindings for the map screen, coordinate readouts, and the tools you need for taking map measurements.
  • Firing: the main gun trigger once the cannons are properly laid.
  • Optics and camera: switching between the map overview and the gunsight view.
  • Menu and pause: access to the in-game menu, settings, and mission screens.

Most missions alternate between the map screen and the gunsight, so the default layout keeps those two views on inputs you can reach without shifting your whole hand. Open the controls screen at the start of Calibration Fire to confirm the exact keys, since one rebound input can change your entire aiming rhythm.

Gamepad

IRON NEST has full controller support on Steam, so the entire artillery workflow, from map measurements to firing, is playable on a pad without touching the keyboard. The Steam listing also includes DualShock Controller Support and DualSense Controller Support, so PlayStation pads are recognized and show their native button prompts.

  • DualShock and DualSense: both controller types are supported natively, with on-screen prompts matching the connected pad.
  • Complete action set on the pad: traverse, elevation, hydraulics, map tools, firing, and menu navigation are all reachable from the controller.
  • No timed input: the game is listed as playable without timed input, so you can take your time laying the guns with analog controls.
  • Single-player only: there is no co-op or multiplayer, so your controller is always driving the full operator role.

You can commit to either input method for a full session, since the game is fully playable with keyboard and mouse
